Europe (Fall 2011)

For our 30th Anniversary, John and I went to Europe for a two week vacation. We visited cities and sites in both Austria and Italy. It was really fun traveling by train from place to place. No train trip was too long for me. I have always loved looking out the window at all the beautiful scenery. We both absolutely loved all the history, food, culture, and the beauty of that part of the world.

VIENNA, AUSTRIA
Schonbrunn Palace - Mozart gave his first concert here at the age of six.
shopping in Vienna and wienershnitzel for lunch
HALLSTATT, AUSTRIA
This town was absolutely stunning!

SALZBURG, AUSTRIA
(Our hotel is to the left.)
Yes, we took the Sound of Music tour and we absolutely loved it.
This is the famous gazebo where Liesl and Rolf danced and sang together.

This is 'The Wedding Church' where Maria and Captain Von Trapp were married.
VERONA, ITALY
Juliet's balcony
This has John written all over it...
a Roman arena in Verona.
SIENNA, ITALY
This is the view from our hotel balcony.

We stayed at a nun-run hotel in Sienna...
It was such a unique experience mingling with the Catholic nuns.
Lots of rules - no tv and a curfew. haha!
Ahhh..... Tuscany.
SAN GIMIGNANO, ITALY
(beautiful hilltop town)
CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO, ITALY
...people actually live and work in this hilltop village.

ORVIETO, ITALY
The Duomo

Here we strolled the streets of Orvieto.
We absolutely loved it here!
Vespas are everywhere!
The ramparts surrounding Orvieto.
POSITANO, ITALY
quite possibly more romantic than Paris
(sitting on our balcony of our room)

SORRENTO, ITALYWe took a day trip here from Positano.
Scenes from 'Under the Tuscan Sun' were filmed here.
RAVELLO, ITALYhilltop town above the Amalfi Coast

5-mile hike from Ravello down to the city of Amalfi

Ostia Antica - ancient Roman seaport

We had such a great trip celebrating our 30 wonderful years of marriage!

Arrivederci!
